Hit a snag? Most things are answered below. If not, drop us a line.

Tip: if the app starts behaving oddly, force-quit and re-launch it. Because The metronome gnome stores nothing on a server, a fresh launch is always safe — you won't lose anything.

Getting started

How do I start the metronome?

Tap anywhere on the large central circle. It doubles as the pulse display and the start/stop button. Tap it again to stop.

How do I change the tempo?

In Static mode, drag the horizontal BPM dial below the central circle. A short swipe nudges the tempo by a few BPM; a long swipe across the full width sweeps the entire range (20–300 BPM).

What is auto-increment mode?

Auto-increment raises the tempo on a schedule — useful for practice progressions where you want to gradually push your speed. Set:

When the tempo would exceed the ceiling, it wraps back to the floor and the cycle repeats. The panel shows you the projected cycle length so you know how long the routine will take.

Troubleshooting

I can barely hear the clicks over my music

The app uses iOS audio ducking: other audio (Spotify, YouTube, a podcast) is automatically lowered by a tiny amount around each beat so the click stays audible. If that's not enough, raise your system volume — the click is already peak-loud, so we can't push it higher without distortion.

The dial moves erratically / snaps back

Make sure you've fully updated to the latest version of the app. The dial was rewritten to use a stable gesture handler in v0.2; earlier versions had a known flicker issue when dragging.

My settings disappeared

Settings are stored only on your device. Deleting and reinstalling the app, restoring your iPhone from a fresh setup (rather than a backup), or signing into a different iCloud account can all reset them.

The beat skips at very high BPMs

Above ~280 BPM you may notice tiny gaps when other apps are consuming significant CPU. Close other audio apps if you're practising at extreme tempos.
